UVU Personal Financial Planning Students Capture First Place in 2017 NAGDCA Retirement Knowledge Quiz Bowl

OREM, UTAH – SEPTEMBER 28,2017 — UVU Personal Financial Planning (PFP) students pulled out all the stops for an overall first place victory over Texas Tech in the finals of the 2017 National Association of Government Deferred Compensation Administrators (NAGDCA) Foundation Retirement Knowledge Quiz Bowl in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Woodbury PFP students Trent Colledge, Colin Hardy, Josh Pollard and Josh Wagstaff coached by their advisor Dr. Hyrum Smith, received an all expenses paid trip to Milwaukee to compete.

The game show style competition for Certified Financial Planners (CFP)  and non-CFP degree programs was held during the NAGDCA Annual Conference, September 26-27.

As first place winners, the students were awarded $400 scholarships each. Equally as rewarding was the opportunity for them to network with professionals in the retirement planning industry. The objective of the NAGDCA Quiz Bowl is to promote the profession of financial planning and advance knowledge in the field of public sector retirement plans. The event engages students in general retirement planning issues.

“It was a great opportunity to compete against the top financial planning programs in the nation,” says Pollard. “I have to give credit to all the team members and our Professor Dr. Hyrum Smith for helping us prepare for and win the NAGDCA Quiz Bowl. It was a memorable experience representing the UVU Personal Financial Planning Program on a national level.”

Another winning student, Josh Wagstaff, concurred sharing “NAGDCA was a great experience for all of us. We had a great time learning and networking at the conference. Winning the final round of the quiz bowl was an amazing way to end the conference.
