1st Annual Senior Citizen Art Show kicks off SCERA’s new Senior Alliance Program during the month of June

The SCERA Senior Alliance is thrilled to present the first annual Senior Art Show featuring art commissioned by Utah County’s finest senior artists age 55 and over. This event has been a great catalyst for sparking and sharing the creative talents and culture of Utah County seniors with over 60 pieces, of various mediums, submitted.

All submissions will be on exhibit for the community to enjoy in Gallery 101 at the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 S. State Street in Orem, from June 2-30.  Entrance is free and open to the public. An opening artist reception will be held on Friday, June 2 from 6:00-8:00pm where you can meet the senior artists and enjoy refreshments.

The art show will feature original works from seniors at Elderquest, Seville, Spring Gardens, Our House Orem, Abbington of Mapleton, Courtyard at Jamestown, Provo Assisted Living, Treeo Senior Living, Canyon Breeze, The Charleston of Cedar Hills, Beehive Homes of Provo and Orem, and senior centers in Orem, Provo, Springville and Spanish Fork.

The SCERA Senior Alliance and art show both make their debut this year with a three-fold mission to involve and engage seniors by offering an opportunity to expand their minds, explore their creativity, and extend service by sharing their time and talents with each other and with the community.  “This event offers community members a chance to enjoy the great talent within our senior community and to celebrate the lives and inspiration behind the work of each participating artist,” says Adam J. Robertson, SCERA’s President and CEO, and one of forces behind the founding of SSA.

The Alliance and the Art Show will bring seniors with common interests together not just to celebrate art but to share inspiration, connect and engage with others in the same stage of life, and enjoy each other’s company.   The art show will feature a wide variety of pieces, including painting, sculpture, quilts and more.

SCERA’s Senior Alliance is a new program that partners with Utah County senior centers, assisted living centers, senior housing, senior friendly businesses and senior service organizations.  Its mission is to link the senior community together and to involve senior citizens in artistic, service and educational programs .

“Our plan for SCERA’s Senior Alliance is to have a major event each quarter, and explore dance, music, theatre, film, service and more,” adds Robertson.
