Western Heating and Air Supports Local Post Partum Awareness Foundation

Salem, September 26th, 2016

Western Heating and Air has always believed in partnering with other organizations to support important causes. Angie Snow, Vice President and head of marketing commented, “Until recently we have not supported a cause that has touched us more deeply than the one we are supporting now.”

This past year, Angie’s dear friend, Emily Dyches passed away due to the effects of postpartum depression. Emily was a beautiful mother of five children. After giving birth to her fifth child, she began to feel anxious and depressed. After months of seeking help for her condition, Emily experienced a severe panic attack. This attack led to a traumatic accident which took her life.

As a result of this tragic event, a foundation called The Emily Effect was established to honor Emily and spread the important message of support and hope for all mothers struggling with this debilitating illness.

According to the CDC, about 1 in 8 women nationwide experience postpartum depression. Utah has an even higher rate at 1 in 7 according to a 2015 survey by the Utah Department of Health. Unfortunately, very few women seek help due to fear, lack of understanding, and embarrassment of their situation.

Angie recognized a way she could spread awareness of postpartum depression, as well as honor her friend. She said,“It occurred to me that our technicians come in contact with mothers each day when servicing homes. I decided The Emily Effect was a cause that Western Heating and Air could support simply by having our technicians share information with customers about The Emily Effect.”

Under Angie’s direction, a new Western Heating and Air van was fitted with a vehicle wrap designed to help build awareness. In addition, Angie had a page on their company website published about The Emily Effect. Western Heating and Air is also donating a portion of their Monument Savings Club funds to the foundation.

When asked what her hopes are for this partnership, Angie stated, “If every customer of Western Heating and Air gains a greater awareness and knowledge of postpartum depression and shares that with family, friends, and neighbors, then we have been successful. That’s my goal. That’s how we can really honor Emily.”
